Bacchus

The Bacchus white wine grape was birthed at Germany's Geilweilhof Institute for Grape Breeding in 1933. It adapts well to a broad range of climates and less favorible vineyard conditions. German plantations of the Bacchus grape peaked in 1990, with most plantings in Rheinhessen. It has also found its way to England, and on to Canada's British Columbia province. Some argue that Bacchus thrives better on Vancouver Island than it does in its homeland.

Raumland Sparkling Grape Juice, Raumland Estate, Germany

Raumland Estate has been called Germany's premiere producer of Sekt or sparkling wines. The estate is located in the Rheinhessen Region, Germany's largest wine-growing area. The best vineyards in this enormous 65,000 acre region are those close to the Rhine River. Raumland's non-alcoholic sparkling white grape juice comes from Bacchus, Riesling, and Müller-Thurgau grapes, according to owner/winemaker Volker Raumland. Its reputation in America in on the rise, including a $32/bottle price on the wine list at one of America's premium hotel chains!
