Barbera

The Barbera grape is the most successful grape variety in Italy's Piedmont region, and Italy's second most common red wine grape. On a global scale, it is one of the world's most widely planted grapes. Successfully transplanted to California, there are some 11,000 acres in production in the Central Valley, the coast, and the Sierra Foothills. The grape is used primarily for blending with other red wine grapes.

2005 Genuine California Grape Juice, Castoro Cellars

The husband and wife team of Niels and Bimmer Udsen established Castoro Cellars in Templeton, California, in the early 1980s. It is one of the oldest wineries in the Paso Robles American Viticultural Area (AVA). In addition to the grapes grown in their own vineyards, Castoro Cellars buys fruit from more than 20 other local growers, seeking out those willing to invest the extra effort necessary to produce high quality fruit. Their 2005 blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Barbera, and Syrah juices with just a touch of sparkle is a perfect example of that commitment to excellence.
