GeorgiaThere is evidence that the Cherokee and Creek Indians enjoyed the juice of the Native American vines we know today as Muscadines. Two centuries after the first Spanish explorers inhabited Georgian soil, James Edward Oglethorpe, Georgia's founder, tried to introduce European varities as a part of his economic plan. Unfortunately, mysterious New World diseases and indigenous insects thwarted his intentions. Over time new scientific techniques allowed Georgia to begin producing its share of grapes. Native Muscadine grapes, however, have continued to play an important role in Georgia's viticulture. (GeorgiaWineCountry.com)
Red Muscadine Grape Juice, Ison's Nursery and Vineyard
Ison's Nursery and Vineyard is much more than another Southern producer of muscadine grapes -- though it is the largest and oldest. The nursery has also been at the forefront of creating new muscadine varietals. One of those creations is the Ison Muscadine. Now you can enjoy this unique red juice from their signature grape.
Bronze Muscadine Grape Juice, Ison's Nursery and Vineyard
Ison's Nursery and Vineyard celebrated its 80th birthday in 2014. This Georgia grower is the oldest and largest producer of muscadine grapes. One would therefore expect that its pantry would be filled with all sorts of muscadine goodies including this bronze colored juice from the Tara Muscadine varietal.
100% Muscadine Grape Juice, Still Pond Vineyard & Winery
The side road of red Georgia clay beckens you to turn its way, never giving hint of why. Rounding a bend in the path, acres of muscadine grapes loom before you. Stopping at the Still Pond Vineyard and Winery tasting room, you pour a glass of chilled juice from white Carlos grapes. But the juice is blush -- not white! The secret of Still Pond juice is simple. In the bottling process the white juice has mingled with the skins of red grapes just long enough to absorb a little pink color. But there are other fascinating stories at Still Pond. Ask about the Civil War soldiers and peach brandy!
