Draper Valley Vineyard, established in the early 1980s was in disrepair when Al and Sandy Curtice left California's Napa Valley. A new drip irrigation system, vertical trellis, and many other improvements breathed new life into the vineyard. Today it is once again producing Cabernet Sauvignon, Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, and Riesling. But this vineyard is different; no wine is produced here. The Iowa Grape Vines plant nursery and Juicery are examples of a transformation taking place in the heart of corn and soybean country. Established in 2001 by Jim & Mary Kay Sorensen, the nursery now boasts more than 40 varieties of grapes suited for Midwestern weather challenges.
